Successful final review for the ANASTACIA H2020 Research and Innovation Action in Brussels

The final contractual review meeting for the ANASTACIA H2020 co-funded research project (http://www.anastacia-h2020.eu) with external reviewers and project officer from the EC side took place in Brussels on February 19, 2020. The ANASTACIA consortium successfully presented the results of the work of the project at the final 18 months of project. ANASTACIA consortium developed a trustworthy-by-design security framework which address security in all the phases of the ICT Systems Development Lifecycle (SDL) that is able to take autonomous decisions through the use of new networking technologies such as Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV), continuous security monitoring, and intelligent and dynamic security enforcement. During the review meeting, the ANASTACIA consortium demonstrated how the ANASTACIA framework had protected a Smart Building from various adversaries and attacks using compromised devices, and how it had provided a holistic framework for security by-design suitable for Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) based on IoT and Cloud architectures. UBITECH was leading the integration and testing activities of the ANASTACIA project, and developed a highly scalable data filtering mechanism for collecting and aggregating all security logs.

Successful midterm review for the InteropEHRate H2020 Research and Innovation Action in Luxembourg

The first contractual review meeting for the InteropEHRate H2020 co-funded research project (https://www.interopehrate.eu/) took place in Luxembourg on February 13, 2020. InteropEHRate aims to support peoples’ health by opening them up new ways to make health data available where needed. To make this possible, key health data is managed in “patients’ hands”, i.e. through Smart EHRs (S-EHR) on mobile devices. Data is always transferred via highly secure channels including a direct device-to-device. The InteropEHRate consortium successfully presented the results of the work of the project during the first 12 months of project. UBITECH, as the leader of health record security and privacy protocols of the project, presented the security and privacy mechanisms adopted in InteropEHRate for both the remote and device-to-device protocols. These mechanisms include two variants for identity management (one of them utilizes qualified digital signatures for eIDAS regulation compliance), double-signed consent management and pluggable authentication based on Keycloak Identity and Access Management.

Successful final review for the PrEstoCloud H2020 Research and Innovation Action in Brussels

The second and final contractual review meeting for the PrEstoCloud H2020 co-funded research project took (https://prestocloud-project.eu) place in Brussels on February 6, 2020. The PrEstoCloud consortium has successfully presented the results of the work of the project at the final 18 months of project. UBITECH developed and integrated a highly efficient security mechanism for Cloud and Edge devices and provided a toolkit for networking connectivity with end-to-end encryption for Cloud and Edge devices, even on the go, based on latest mesh networking advancements. UBITECH, who constitutes the integrator of PrEstoCloud, has supported the three pilot organizations to demonstrate PrEstoCloud in three diverse use cases, i.e. Video Surveillance, Logistics and Mobile Journalism, taking the initiative for the creation of an assistive web-based user interface that ease users to achieve elastic deployments for processing data at both Cloud and Edge.

UBITECH undertakes the administrative and technical coordination of RAINBOW Research and Innovation Action on Trusted Fog Computing

UBITECH is hosting the kick-off meeting, in Athens, Greece (February 5-6, 2020), of the RAINBOW Research and Innovation Action, officially started on January 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 871403) and spans on the period January 2020 – December 2022. The vision of the RAINBOW is to design and develop an open and trusted fog computing platform that facilitates the deployment and management of scalable, heterogeneous and secure IoT services and cross-cloud applications (i.e, microservices). RAINBOW falls within the bigger vision of delivering a platform enabling users to remotely control the infrastructure that is running, potentially, on hundreds of edge devices (e.g., wearables), thousands of fog nodes in a factory building or flying in the sky (e.g., drones), and millions of vehicles travelling in a certain area or across Europe.

Successful final review for the UNICORN H2020 Innovation Action in Brussels

The second and final contractual review meeting for the UNICORN H2020 co-funded research project (https://unicorn-project.eu/) took place in Brussels on February 4, 2020. The UNICORN consortium successfully presented the results of the work of the project during the last 18 months of project (from M19 up until M36). UBITECH, as the leader of WP3 entitled Orchestration and Resource Management, presented the updates in the technical architecture and the technical highlights of the UNICORN platform. UBITECH also presented its proof of concept demonstrator, utilizing the UNICORN platform for the multi-Cloud deployment of its CryptoPhone Voice-over-IP secure telephony solution, showcasing the simplified design, deployment and management of secure and elastic – by design – multi-Cloud services. This was achieved by developing a policy and security aware, multi-cloud orchestrator that combines resource management, containerized services deployment over microVMs, and constant policy enforcement for managing optimized elasticity (developed mainly by UBITECH). UBITECH contributing also in the dissemination of and the increase of the general awareness about the UNICORN by participating at the DockerCon 2019 (San Francisco, USA) as a Copper Sponsor and demonstrating its MAESTRO Orchestrator, that constitutes UBITECH’s commercial offering of the UNICORN platform incorporating some of the UNICORN platform’s components developed by UBITECH. Finally, UBITECH has supported most of the twelve validation contest winners SMEs to benefit from the UNICORN platform in the frame of the development and deployment of their services and has got great feedback about the improvements and added-value features that the UNICORN platform needs, going the extra mile and implementing the most of them before the final review.

UBITECH undertakes the coordination of ASCAPE Research and Innovation Action on Big Data and Machine Learning technologies for the support of cancer patients quality of life

UBITECH is hosting the kick-off meeting, in Athens, Greece (January 28-29, 2020), of the ASCAPE Research and Innovation Action, officially started on January 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 875351) and spans on the period January 2020 – December 2022. The ASCAPE project aims to take advantage of the recent ICT advances in Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to support cancer patients’ quality of life and health status. To achieve its objective, ASCAPE will create an open AI infrastructure that will enable health stakeholders (hospitals, research institutions, companies, etc.) to deploy an edge-node locally and execute the AI algorithmson their private data without the need to send their data outside their domain. Any new knowledge produced by this process will be sent back to the open AI infrastructure. This way the knowledge will be shared among everyone and the medical data will remain private. With this feature, ASCAPE is aiming at democratizing access to cancer support. In particular, with ASCAPE even less developed countries or small healthcare providers (small rural hospitals) that do not possess large amounts of medical data, can connect to ASCAPE and benefit from its collective knowledge.
