Corporate Governance

Leveraging a dynamic synergy of varied talents, experiences, and expertise, UBITECH’s Corporate Management Team ensures effective, transparent governance, reinforcing the trust of our staff, partners, and clients in our management capabilities.

This team, comprising three dedicated members, each oversees a specific operational area within UBITECH. They are supported by executives with specialized knowledge in key technologies or markets, enhancing our strategic direction and operational excellence.

Corporate Management Team

Dimitris ALEXANDROU, Business Innovation Director, specializes in public and private sector digital transformation services. With a PhD in Self-Adaptive Healthcare Business Processes (Clinical Pathways) from the National Technical University of Athens, his expertise spans business process modelling, expert and rule-based systems, generative artificial intelligence, and large language models. Co-founder of UBITECH, Dimitris has led significant international and national projects, contributing to secure document exchange platforms, conversational digital assistants, and business intelligence workbenches.

Thanassis BOURAS, Research Strategy Director, focuses on co-funded research initiatives, strategic research partnerships, innovation management and new ventures. With a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Thanassis has demonstrated exceptional project management skills, overseeing administrative, financial, quality and innovation aspects of major information technology projects. After his career start as a risk management and business continuity expert at the Athens Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad (ATHENS 2004), Thanassis co-founded UBITECH and has led the corporate business development.

Panagiotis GOUVAS, R&D Director, oversees projects execution and technical developments, technology validation and foresight, corporate standardization. Holding a PhD in autonomic computing and service provisioning in mesh environments, he co-founded UBITECH and has led its R&D activities, undertaking the technical management and delivery of large-scale and complex projects, and the conceptualization and design of the corporate product lines. His research interests lay in the field of SecDecOps, GenAI, computing systems, digital security and networking technologies.

Executives

Alexis ASKITOPOULOS, Science Director, QUBITECH, has worked as an experimental research scientist for over 10 years in state of the art research facilities in Southampton University, FORTH and Skoltech. For the later, he helped design and implement the lab infrastructure for the hybrid Photonics optical research facility. Alexis has participated in numerous European research projects and presented his work in conferences across the world and have numerous publications in scientific peer reviewed journals. His current research interests are quantum optics, photonics, quantum simulators, quantum communications and post quantum encryption.

Magda FOTI, Head, Energy Systems Digitalisation (ESD) Research Group, with a PhD from the University of Thessaly, specializes in the digitization of energy systems, focusing on decentralized energy markets and demand response through machine learning and game theory. Her research integrates power systems with advanced technologies like blockchains and optimization tools, contributing significantly to the field with publications and conference presentations. Magda’s professional journey includes roles in academia, the European Commission, and ICT companies, where she has deepened her expertise in smart grids and energy transition.

Thanassis GIANNETSOS, Head, Secure Systems & Trusted Computing (SST) Research Group, focuses on developing secure, privacy-preserving, and trusted computing protocols. Holding a PhD from the University of Aalborg, his encompassing roles from the Technical University of Denmark and the University of Surrey to the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Athens Information Technology reflect his prime footing in security and cryptography within an array of global communications and computing. His strategic engagement in domestic and European strands of secure systems positions him as a scientific leader in research espousing challenging cores of combined technologies and policy in trusted computing.

Sophia KARAGIORGOU, Head, Data & AI/ML Systems (DAI) Research Group, with a demonstrated history of working in the research industry. She excels in process modeling, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, and C#. Her expertise extends to computer science, databases, big data, predictive analytics, and privacy-preserving machine/deep learning. Sophia holds a Ph.D. in “spatiotemporal data management and analytics” from the National Technical University of Athens, underlining her strong educational foundation and professional proficiency.

Lampros KATSIKAS, Head, Business Innovation & Delivery (BID) Team, a profound tech leader with a robust background in software engineering, specializing in Java applications, Cloud technologies, and digital services. His professional journey includes pivotal roles at Eurobank S.A. and Agile Actors, demonstrating expertise in the banking and IT sectors. With an M.Sc. in Telecommunication Systems and Networks from the University of Athens and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Crete, Lampros combines technical proficiency with strategic project management. His work spans innovative projects in e-Government platforms, financial services, and cutting-edge research in 5G technologies, underpinned by a commitment to excellence in product development and team leadership.

Dimitris KLONIDIS, Head, Network, Software & System (NSS) Research Group, holds a Ph.D. in optical communications from the University of Essex and has extensive expertise in optical network design and optimization for access, metro and core networks, optical transmission and switching technologies, network planning control and management, and experimental performance evaluation. Dimitris has contributed over 150 publications to the field, demonstrating his impact on 5G/6G networks and optical networking technologies.

Giannis LEDAKIS, Head, Computing Systems, Software and Services (CS3) Research Group, drives the Cloud, Edge and Fog Computing research activities of UBITECH, showcasing solid background in project management, technical coordination, software engineering, technical architecture design and integration through his participation in several national and European R&D projects. Giannis holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering from the University of Patras.

Xanthi PAPAGEORGIOU, Head, Robotics & Cognitive Systems (RCS) Research Group, holds a Mechanical Engineering Degree from NTUA (2003) and a PhD (2009) on the subject of Motion Tasks on Neuro-Robotic Systems, and serves as an adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. With a rich background that spans from the ATHENA Research Center to the Cyprus University of Technology, her expertise lies in neuro-robotics, human/robot interaction, and rehabilitation. Xanthi’s work, significant in advancing robotic control and decision systems, is underpinned by over 70 scientific publications and her involvement in numerous research projects.

Kostis PERAKIS, Head, Data Engineering & Analytics (DEA) Research Group, is an accomplished professional in the fields of e-Health, m-Health, Cloud computing, Big Data analytics, and data privacy. With a Ph.D. in Medical Informatics from the National Technical University of Athens, he has significantly contributed to European and national R&D programs, showcasing his expertise through various projects and publications. Dr. Perakis’s skill set includes excellent communication, mediation abilities, and a prolific academic output, evidenced by numerous scientific papers and book chapters.

Dimitris POULOPOULOS, Head, Digital Business Transformation (DBT) Team, a highly qualified engineering leader with over a decade of experience at Microsoft (US), where he played a pivotal role in developing Dynamics 365 and AX for Retail, including Modern POS and eCommerce platforms. His expertise spans a wide range of technologies, including C#, JavaScript, Azure, and SharePoint, underpinned by a strong foundation in mathematics. Dimitris has a knack for project management and software design, with notable contributions to content management, backup/restore technologies, and multithreaded programming. His mentorship led the D365 Development team towards new releases, showcasing his leadership in technology innovation and application development.

Christina STRATIGAKI, Head, Project Management Office (PMO), with a strong background in computer science and web technologies. She holds an MSc in Information Systems Management from Harokopio University of Athens. Christina’s extensive experience spans EU-funded and national projects in transport, supply chain logistics, and cloud applications, alongside roles in business analysis and project management within the banking sector. She is adept in proposal writing for EU frameworks, showcasing her comprehensive skill set in project and program management.

Simos TSINTZOS, Technology Director, QUBITECH, a physicist with a focus on microelectronics and optoelectronics, has made significant contributions to polariton physics and technology. His work includes the development of polariton LED devices, lasers, and novel polariton devices like transistors and switches. Simos has collaborated internationally, demonstrating expertise in both theoretical and applied physics, notably in quantum and photonic technologies. His achievements have been recognized with scholarships, and he currently advances photonic and quantum technologies within UBITECH Group.

Operations

Maria KAVROULAKI, Head, Grants Financial Operations (GFO), is a driving force in financial management and planning of EC and national co-funded projects, seamlessly blending financial expertise with a passion for innovation and collaboration. With a wealth of experience on Research Centers and with a keen understanding of project management principles, she is ensuring optimal resource allocation and project success. Maria holds an MSc in Management and Economics from the University of Athens.

Dimitra ANGELIDOU, HR Manager with a robust background in tech recruitment, has progressed through roles from HR Intern at Olympic Brewery S.A. to HR Generalist at Médecins du Monde, showcasing her versatility across different sectors. At EUROPEAN DYNAMICS, she honed her skills as a Talent Acquisition Specialist before moving to UBITECH as a Human Resources Business Partner in 2020. She holds a Master’s in Human Resources Management from ALBA Graduate Business School, further solidified by a Master’s in Spanish Language and Literature from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and a Bachelor’s in Spanish Language Teacher Education from Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon, demonstrating her commitment to education and professional development.
