UBITECH undertakes the technical coordination of the Int5Gent Innovation Action on 5G enabling technologies integration in a holistic service to physical layer 5G system platform

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by ICCS-NTUA (November 9-10, 2020) of the Int5Gent Innovation Action, officially started on November 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957403) and spans on the period November 2020 – October 2023. The Int5Gent targets the integration of innovative data plane technology building blocks under a flexible 5G network resource, slice and application orchestration framework, providing a complete 5G system platform for the validation of advance 5G services and IoT solutions. The project builds upon a suite of innovative 5G technological solutions spanning hardware, software, and networking systems that have been conceptualized and developed under the latest 5GPPP initiative projects and are now taken to TRL-7 and above.

UBITECH presents the RAINBOW Trusted Fog Computing paradigm at the annual EGI conference

UBITECH participated at the annual EGI Conference 2020 (EGI2020) presenting the RAINBOW Research and Innovation Action (funded by the H2020 framework of the European Commission). EGI2020 took place on November 4, 2020 as a virtual teleconference, where different actors from a range of fields participated and presented their projects and products. The theme of this year conference was “Federated infrastructures for connected communities” with the aim to bring together science, computing, and (international) collaboration through a diverse and interactive programme. Representing UBITECH, Mr. Konstantinos Theodosiou presented the RAINBOW project concept, objectives and achievements towards the realization of Trusted Fog Computing. In particular, RAINBOW proposes a novel platform that simplifies the deployment and management of scalable, heterogeneous and secure IoT services. With RAINBOW, fog computing can reach its true potential by providing the deployment, orchestration, network fabric and data management for scalable and secure edge applications, addressing the need to timely process the ever-increasing amount of data continuously gathered from heterogeneous IoT devices and appliances.

As one of the lead consortium partners, UBITECH ENERGY kicks off the OneNet Innovation Action towards a single, smart European electricity grid

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (October 29, 2020) of the OneNet Innovation Action, officially started on October 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957739) and spans on the period October 2020 – September 2023. The vision of OneNet is to provide a seamless integration of all the actors in the electricity network across Europe to create the conditions for a synergistic operation that optimizes the overall energy system while creating an open and fair market structure. This synergistic process is enabled by open IT architectures that guarantee continental level interoperability. This new open architecture will provide new market mechanisms encouraging new business models which will be developed to support both large population areas and small- and medium-sized DSOs and TSOs, in Europe. OneNet will develop a unique concept of scalable interoperable data management able to unlock flexibility at European level creating fair conditions for all the stakeholders. OneNet will have an agnostic approach to define solutions that are not only open today but also open to future development.

UBITECH kicks off the COALA Research and Innovation Action on cognitive assisted agile manufacturing

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by BIBA (October 14, 2020) of the COALA Research and Innovation Action, officially started on October 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957296) and spans on the period October 2020 – September 2023. The vision of the COALA project for AI in manufacturing is the development of human-centered digital assistant that provides a more proactive and pragmatic approach to support operative situations characterized by cognitive load, time pressure, and little or zero tolerance for quality issues. COALA will help shaping the complementarity in the collaboration between the AI-based assistant and the human so that the AI will take over time consuming and stressful tasks reliably and credibly, and the human will focus on understanding and problem-solving in complex & knowledge-intensive situations. COALA’s AI-focused education and training concept will prepare the human-side of the collaboration by offering concept for teaching professionals systematically and, in the language of the workers, about the capabilities, risks, and limitations of AI in manufacturing.

UBITECH undertakes the technical coordination of the CYRENE Research and Innovation Action on supply chain services security and resilience certification

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by MAGGIOLI (October 14-15, 2020) of the CYRENE Research and Innovation Action, officially started on October 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 952690) and spans on the period October 2020 – September 2023. The vision of the CYRENE project is to enhance the security, privacy, resilience, accountability and trustworthiness of Supply Chains (SCs) through the provision of a novel and dynamic Conformity Assessment Process (CAP) that evaluates the security and resilience of supply chain services, the interconnected IT infrastructures composing these services and the individual devices that support the operations of the SCs. In order to meet its objective, the proposed Conformity Assessment Process is based on a collaborative, multi-level evidence -driven, Risk and Privacy Assessment Approach that support, at different levels, the SCs security officers and operators to recognize, identify, model, and dynamically analyse advanced persistent threats and vulnerabilities as well as to handle daily cyber-security and privacy risks and data breaches.

UBITECH ENERGY kicks off the IANOS Innovation Action on Decarbonization and Smartification of Islands

UBITECH ENERGY participates in the virtual kick-off meeting, hosted by CNET (October 7-8, 2020), of the IANOS Innovation Action, officially started on October 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957810) and spans on the period October 2020 – September 2024. The IANOS project aims to demonstrate, under real-life operational conditions, a group of both technological and non-technological solutions adapted to harsh islandic conditions, in two (2) Lighthouse (LH) islands, covering a multitude of energy supply, storage and end-use vectors on different climatic and socio-economic conditions, while taking the appropriate measures for their replication into three (3) Fellow islands.

UBITECH kicks off the ASSURED Research and Innovation Action on Sustainable Operational Assurance and Verification for Systems-of-Systems Security and Privacy

UBITECH participates in the virtual kick-off meeting, hosted by the MARTEL GMBH (September 25, 2020), of the ASSURED Research and Innovation Action, officially started on September 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 952697) and spans on the period September 2020 – August 2023. The ASSURED project aims to design and implement a novel policy-driven, formally verified, runtime assurance framework in the complex domain of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), capable of ensuring the safe operation of a system that contains functional components, which may not be sufficiently reliable, or sufficiently verified, according to current developments or certification standards. The core idea is to leverage and enhance runtime property-based attestation and verification techniques so as to allow intelligent (unverified) controllers to perform within a predetermined envelope of acceptable behavior, and a risk management approach to extend this to a larger System of Systems (SoS).

UBITECH undertakes the technical coordination of the PHOENIX Innovation Action on adapt-&-play cost-effective and user-friendly upgrade of smartness in existing buildings with legacy equipment

UBITECH participates in the virtual kick-off meeting, hosted by the University of Murcia (September 25, 2020), of the PHOENIX Innovation Action, officially started on September 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 893079) and spans on the period September 2020 – August 2023. The PHOENIX project aims at changing the role of buildings from unorganised energy consumers to active agents orchestrating and optimising their energy consumption, production and storage, with the goal of increasing energy performance, maximising occupants’ benefit, and facilitating grid operation. The PHOENIX project will design a portfolio of ICT solutions covering all aspects from hardware and software upgrades needed in legacy equipment and optimal deployment of sensors, to data analytics and services for both building users and energy utilities.

UBITECH ENERGY kicks off the TIGON Innovation Action on Intelligent DC-based hybrid Grids

UBITECH ENERGY participates in the virtual kick-off meeting, hosted by CIRCE (September 22, 2020), of the TIGON Innovation Action, officially started on September 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957769) and spans on the period September 2020 – August 2024. The TIGON project aims to enable a smooth deployment and integration of intelligent DC-based grid architectures within the current energy system, while providing ancillary services to the main network. To do so, TIGON proposes a four-level approach aiming at improving (1) Reliability, (2) Resilience (3) Performance, and (4) Cost Efficiency of hybrid grids through the development of an innovative portfolio of power electronic solutions and software systems and tools focused on the efficient monitoring, control and management of DC grids. These solutions will be demonstrated in two main Demo-Sites located in France and Spain.

Successful midterm remote review for the CYBELE H2020 Innovation Action

The first contractual virtual review meeting for the CYBELE H2020 co-funded research project (https://www.cybele-project.eu/) with external reviewers and the project officer from the EC side took place September 18, 2020, wherein the CYBELE consortium successfully presented the results of the work of the project during the first 18 months of project. CYBELE aims to demonstrate how the convergence of HPC, Big Data, Cloud Computing (services) and IoT can create value in the domains of agri-food by implementing Precision Agriculture (PA) and Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) method. UBITECH, as the technical leader of the CYBELE project, gave an overview and assured the delivery of the fully integrated and technically verified CYBELE Platform implemented in collaboration, mainly, with RYAX, ENGINEERING and INTRASOFT using state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies. UBITECH presented the Experiment Composer Framework (based on Spring Cloud Data Flow) which provides functionalities for creating data pipelines on Cloud infrastructures andorchestrates the migration from Big Data jobs to HPC jobs. Moreover, UBITECH, in collaboration with Suite5, provided the data check-in pipeline with a cleansing module. The reviewers and the PO were satisfied with the results and provided some feedback and recommendations for the future work. The CYBELE consortium is enthusiastic about continuing their work in the project.
