UBITECH ENERGY is awarded by ENTSO-E a study about the “Integration of the Power and Heat Sectors”

The European Commission’s legislative package (Fit for 55 package) aims to ensure that EU policies are in line with the climate goals agreed by the Council and the European Parliament by revising and updating EU legislation and by putting in place new initiatives. This set of proposals includes an Amendment of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), which showcases the importance that energy efficiency will play in the energy transition. In this context, the concept of sector coupling (SC) has been emerged, representing an approach to replace fossil fuels with energy from renewable electricity sources. One of the most prominent coupling of sectors is the integration of the power and heat sectors, i.e., either by direct electrification from renewable energy sources or power transformation in order to be used for residential/district level heating (power-to-heat, also known as P2H). Towards this quest, the Working Group 4 (WG4) Future of Energy Systems of the Research, Development and Innovation Committee (RDIC) of ENTSO-E awarded UBITECH ENERGY a contract to perform a study with TSO perspective on Integration of the Power and Heat Sectors. The goal is to conduct a comprehensive study, focused on the potential benefits, e.g., unlocking flexibility potential through sector coupling, increased VRES integration, reduced VRES curtailment, and challenges, such as grid impact assessment, energy adequacy and grid adequacy, that TSOs will have to address in the coming years.

Suite5 and UBITECH presents BEYOND on Sustainable Places 21 Conference

On September 29, the BEYOND H2020 Project led the “Data and Intelligence sharing for transforming buildings into active nodes in the future energy system” workshop which took place in the context of the Sustainable Places 2021. Buildings of all types are a major contributor to global energy usage, driving much discussion on how to be decarbonized. At the same time, buildings produce large datasets providing significant opportunities for more efficient performance monitoring and optimization by enabling better understanding and offering further insights on all aspects affecting their operation through Big Energy Data Analytics. Actually, the real value of big data produced by buildings is hidden in their sharing with all energy market actors whose operations are directly or indirectly linked to the energy performance of buildings, spanning ESCOs, City Authorities, the Construction Industry, Network Operators, Energy Retailers and Aggregators, among others.

Successful second review for the InteropEHRate Research and Innovation Action

The second contractual review meeting for the InteropEHRate H2020 co-funded research project (https://www.interopehrate.eu/) was held virtually on September 21, 2021. InteropEHRate aims to support peoples’ health by opening them up new ways to make health data available where needed. To make this possible, key health data is managed in “patients’ hands”, i.e. through Smart EHRs (S-EHR) on mobile devices. Data is always transferred via highly secure channels including a direct device-to-device. The InteropEHRate consortium successfully presented the results of the work of the project during the second period.
