Successful first review for the FARCROSS H2020 Innovation Action

The first review of the FARCROSS H2020 Innovation Action research project with external reviewers and the Project Officer from the European Commission side took place (virtually) on June 16, 2021, wherein the FARCROSS consortium successfully presented the results of the work of the project during the first 18 months of the project. The FARCROSS project aims to connect major stakeholders of the energy value chain and demonstrate integrated hardware and software solutions that will facilitate the “unlocking” of the resources for the cross-border electricity flows and regional cooperation. The project will promote state-of-the-art technologies to enhance the exploitation/capacity/efficiency of transmission grid assets, either on the generation or the transmission level.

UBITECH undertakes the technical coordination of the 5G-IANA Innovation Action on 5G Intelligent Automotive Network Applications

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by ICCS (June 16, 2021) of the 5G-IANA Innovation Action, officially started on June 1st, 2021. The project is funded by the European Commission and the EU Member States under the Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 101016427) and spans on the period June 2021 – May 2024. The 5G-IANA project aims at providing an open 5G experimentation platform, on top of which third party experimenters (i.e., SMEs) in the Automotive-related 5G-PPP vertical will have the opportunity to develop, deploy and test their services.

UBITECH discusses about 5G embedded trust and attestation at EuCNC FAST 2021

UBITECH’s Thanassis Giannetsos, Dimitris Papamartzivanos, Sofia Anna Menesidou and Sophia Karagiorgou give a talk entitled “Towards 5G Embedded Trust: Integrating Attestation Extensions in Vertical Industries” at the 2021 Joint EuCNC & 6G Summit and, more specifically, in the scheduled workshop on the vision of 6G titled “From 5G to 6G Automated and Intelligent Security: FAST“. UBITECH participates at the OSM#11 Hackfest addressing PowerDNS NF packaging and onboarding to OSM Release TEN

Chris Aslanoglou and Vanias Apostolopoulos, with the support and guidance of Thanos Xirofotos and Dr George Katsikas, all of them members of the Network Softwarization and Internet of Things (NSIT) research group of UBITECH, have participated in the latest OSM#11 Hackfest, which was held online between May 31 and June 04 2021. Our team employed state-of-the-art packaging solutions (i.e., Juju charms) to package the popular PowerDNS network function (NF) and successfully onboarded this NF atop Kubernetes through OSM Release TEN.

UBITECH joins Pleiades Innovation Cluster on IoT and Edge Computing

UBITECH becomes an interconnected member of the Pleiades IoT Innovation Cluster, that is established by UniSystems following the successful funding grant from the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) of the Hellenic Ministry of Development and Investments, and aims at developing and promoting IoT technological innovation through coordinated efforts of its members (research centers, universities, large companies, SMEs with specific expertise and start-ups), each one playing its own and significant role in the ecosystem, through a range of extended synergies.

UBITECH participates at the BDVA/DAIRO Data Week 2021 REGAIN workshop on circular digital transformation

UBITECH’s Danae Vergeti, Head of Knowledge & Intelligent Computing Research Group, participated as speaker and panellist at the REGAIN workshop, fostering “big data as key driver for circular digital transformation”, organized in the context of the BDVA/DAIRO Data Week 2021 that is held online from 25th to the 27th of May. The REGAIN Workshop aims to highlight opportunities for boosting data-driven circular practises towards innovative digital transformations. Under the triple-helix of activism – discovery – thinking, REGAIN will reveal new synergies potential for Data/AI and Green/Circular ecosystems along with the need for effective skill sets and business processes, as shaped by representatives from SMEs, social innovators, academia, and policy makers.

Successful first review for the PolicyCLOUD H2020 Innovation Action

The first review of the PolicyCLOUD H2020-870675 project (https://policycloud.eu/) was successfully held by the European Commission on the 19th of May 2021. The PolicyCLOUD project aims to harness the potential of digitisation, big data and cloud technologies to improve the modelling, creation and implementation of policy. The project addresses challenges faced by many businesses and public administrations for improving how they make policy decisions by accessing and using data. The PolicyCLOUD consortium successfully presented the project results, where UBITECH’s Computing Systems, Software and Services research group displayed the work done on the Data Governance model, as well as on the overall Protection and Privacy Enforcement. More specifically, UBITECH’s role is to fulfil the need to acquire and manage the data that will be used by PolicyCLOUD, as well as to provide the tools that can be used to control data in the different phases of the data lifecycle. The reviewers and the PO were very satisfied with the overall results of the project and provided some really interesting feedback and recommendations for future work.

UBITECH co-authors a scientific paper presenting DataCloud concept at RCIS 2021

The short paper entitled “Enabling the Big Data Pipelines on the Computing Continuum”, co-authored by UBITECH, has been accepted by the 15th International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS 2021), held online between 11-14 May, 2021. Mr. Giannis Ledakis, Head of the Computing Systems, Software and Services research group of UBITECH, and his co-authors present the overall vision of the DataCloud Research and Innovation Action, which is the creation of a novel paradigm for Big Data pipeline processing over heterogeneous resources encompassing the Computing Continuum, covering the complete lifecycle of managing Big Data pipelines.

ChildRescue presented in CORDIS magazine

Each year over 250, 000 children slip through the net in the European Union. For this sensitive issue, Ubitech has stepped forward with an innovative solution that can help the investigation of missing children as well as unaccompanied refugee minors cases. The successful case of the ChildRescue project was presented in the CORDIS magazine (Harnessing collective intelligence to find missing children | Results In Brief | CORDIS | European Commission (europa.eu), the European Commission’s primary source of results from the EU projects framework, as a strong example that the combination of novel technologies and initiatives with powerful social impact can bring about outstanding results to society.
