UBITECH is participating at the 2nd European Conference on the Future Internet that is taking place in Munich, Germany at 17-18 September 2014. Specifically, UBITECH is actively present at the FI-STAR Stand, demonstrating the company’s activities in the FI-STAR project. Dr. Anastasios Zafeiropoulos has presented the SHIELD Specific Enabler that is being developed by UBITECH R&D team for promoting, leveraging and enforcing the notion of pseudo-anonymization of end-users in the course of their interaction with the FI-STAR platform, services, applications and generic enablers. In the course of his presentation, more than 150 ECFI participants have visited the FI-STAR stand and learnt about UBITECH’s end-to-end pseudo-anynomization technologies, while Dr. Anastasios Zafeiropoulos had a series of short interactive sessions and discussions with more than 30 visitors interested in the aforementioned demonstrated technologies.
A scientific paper entitled “A novel development paradigm for deploying applications over programmable infrastructure” has been accepted for presentation at the Workshop on Energy-efficiency, Programmability, Flexibility and Integration in Future Network Architectures (EPFI) at the 26th International Teletraffic Congress (ITC 26), which is held in Karlskrona, Sweden, at September 12, 2014. At this paper, Panagiotis Gouvas and Anastasios Zafeiropoulos – given the inability of application developers to foresee the changes as well as the heterogeneity on the underlying networking and computational infrastructure – propose the design and development of novel software paradigms that facilitate application developers to take advantage of the emerging programmability of the underlying infrastructure and therefore develop reconfigurable by design applications.

In the frame of the National Conference of Civil Registries of the Republic of Argentina, held in Tierra del Fuego (Ushuaia) in 14-16/05/2014, UBITECH was invited, as the sole contractor and implementer of the RENAPER Secure Data Exchange Platform, to give a live demo of the federal platform, to present the current status of the provinces joining it, as well as to discuss with the provinces´ representatives any requests or possibilities for expanding its current functionalities.
Until the date of the national conference the provinces of Neuquen, Formosa, Tucumán and Corrientes had actively joined the federal platform, while, in the frame of the conference activities and discussions, all the other provinces decided to actively join and participate in the RENAPER Secure Data Exchange Platform – representing and covering almost the whole population of the Republic of Argentina.
Currently, UBITECH is in the process of investigating and negotiating a set of additional functionalities that can further enhance specific aspects of the federal platform of RENAPER.
UBITECH participated and submitted a proposal in the FI-STAR Open Call for additional Project Partners that has been launched in September 2013 with deadline on 20 November 2013. After the evaluation of the 83 proposals received (from 21 countries and 115 proposing organizations) by independent experts, which included off-line evaluations and physical consensus meetings, UBITECH has been invited for negotiations and inclusion in the FI-STAR project consortium.
UBITECH organised and hosted the Athens kick-off meeting of the DISYS research project, officially started on March 1st, 2014. The project is partially funded by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) (Grant Agreement No 1621-BET-2013) and runs in the period March 2014 – July 2015.
DISYS project aims to study, design and develop an intelligent system for personalized dietary recommendations, which will take into account the nutritional profile of the consumer and selected health indicators (e.g., blood sugar levels, blood pressure, etc.) and will propose “healthy” meals to the consumer which can be consumed in a restaurant.
UBITECH participates in the design, technical specification and implementation of the Nutritional Profile Layer, integrating the business logic required so that the consumer can introduce self – reported personal data such as eating habits and basic medical information (e.g. allergies or conditions like diabetes), which are mapped to the DISYS Semantic Model. UBITECH participates in the implementation of the nutritional profile of the consumer, based on which the dietary recommendations will rely. The Nutritional Profile Layer also integrates the business logic required amongst others for the nutritional analysis of dietary menus and the mapping of this information to the DISYS Semantic Model. For more information, please visit the project’s website or contact us.
SEVT with the support of UBITECH organized on 28th of March 2014 in Athens, a workshop to present the Linked2Media platform to its members. The concept of the workshop was to have a small number of companies in order the participants to really test the platform.
After a short introduction of the Linked2Media Research for SMEs Associations project (that is partially co-funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission under the Grant Agreement FP7-286714), the research engineers of UBITECH have performed a short demo of the Linked2Media platform and allowed the real testing of it by the participating Greek food companies’ representatives. In total we had 8 participants coming from 6 companies: Nestlé Group, G. Kallimanis S.A., EZA Hellenic Breweries of Atalanti S.A., MANDREKAS S.A., Mondelez Greece (ex Kraft Foods) and JOTIS S.A. UBITECH has joined EC VP Neelie Kroes during the opening of the 2014 Future Internet Assembly, on March 18th, at Megaron Athens International Conference Center. VP Kroes has delivered a FIA2014 opening keynote speech, after which she met with selected Greek start-ups & entrepreneurs – including UBITECH’s R&D Director Dr. Panagiotis Gouvas – for a “Meet and Greet” closed session.
During the closed session, UBITECH’s Panagiotis Gouvas has argued for the adoption from the European Commission of a branding, certification and global promotion mechanism for software solutions produced by the European software industry, as a vehicle for strengthening the competitiveness and leveraging the visibility of the European software vendors (especially SMEs).
UBITECH has participated in the Pre-FIA Workshop entitled “From data services to cloud services: concepts, applications and visions”, which took place at the Megaron Athens International Conference Center on Monday, March 17th, 2014. The workshop looked at a future of industrial leadership reached with the key enabling technology of Cloud Computing. A future in which a multi-cloud ecosystem exists, within which enterprises’ IT environments are transformed into a matrix of interwoven infrastructure, platform and application services delivered by multiple providers.
Academic and industrial stakeholders from various ongoing cloud computing projects (Broker@Cloud, GloNet, PaaSage, Cloud4SOA, PaaSport) presented the latest developments in the field and discuss about concepts, applications, and visions that will shape future multi-cloud enterprise ecosystems. In particular, our R&D Director, Dr. Panagiotis Gouvas has introduced concepts and opportunities on applications on multi-clouds based on our experiences from the PaaSport FP7 co-funded research project.
The Secure Data Exchange Platform implemented by UBITECH for the “Registro Nacional de las Personas” (RENAPER) of the Ministry of Interior and Transport of the Republic of Argentina has been tested and piloted in four provinces of the Argentinian Republic, namely Neuquen, Tucumán, Corrientes and Formosa, during March and April 2014. The successfully executed test cases included the exchange of digitally signed birth, marriage and death certificates, allowing the functional evaluation and acceptance testing of the electronic platform and the familiarization of the provincial public servants with the platform’s digital formats, services and functionality.
Going a step further, the Province of Neuquen, due to the advanced stage of digitization of its civil status records and the sophisticated provincial interconnection plan, has achieved to utilize the electronic platform for exchanging digitally signed certificates between the province and other provincial or federal legal entities requesting civil status documents from citizens.
