UBITECH has participated in the kick-off meeting that took place in Athens of the LinDA research project officially started on December 1st, 2013. The project is partially funded by European Commission under FP7-ICT research programme (Grant Agreement No 610565) and runs in the period December 2013-November 2015.
The LinDA project, entitled “Enabling Linked Data and Analytics for SMEs by renovating public sector information”, addresses one of the most significant challenges of the usage and publication of Linked Data, the renovation and conversion of existing data formats into structures that support the semantic enrichment and interlinking of data. The set of tools provided by LinDA will assist enterprises, especially SMEs which often cannot afford the development and maintenance of dedicated information analysis and management departments, in efficiently developing novel data analytical services that are linked to the available public data and enterprise data.
The role of UBITECH in LinDA aims at the implementation of libraries and applications for end-user – driven Linked Data Analytics and Data Mining, based on existing Java-based components (like Weka and Java ML) extended to point to RDF as source format, specifically targeted to leverage the potential of Linked Data sources, especially in terms of pattern and link analysis. Moreover, UBITECH will support the end-user SMEs for the adoption and deployment of the LinDA solutions as well as the enrichment of the LinDA visualisation applications library for the business intelligence & management consultants market, the environmental sector and the media industry.
UBITECH has been selected as a National Champion representing Greece for the RSM Entrepreneur of the Year Award category (that is the main awards’ category) in the 2013/14 European Business Awards (that is the Europe’s largest awards programme).
The European Business Awards uncover and promote examples of individuals and organisations that have achieved outstanding results setting them apart as the leading companies, business leaders and entrepreneurs in Europe. This year, the European Business Awards have engaged with over 15,000 businesses in 31 countries across Europe. Only 376 of them have been qualified as National Champions and only 26 of them (including UBITECH) have been qualified as National Champions at the main category of the European Business Awards, i.e. the RSM Entrepreneur of the Year.
The next step is the selection and announcement of ten nominees per awards category. Check our video presentation, share it and vote UBITECH for the “Entrepreneur of the Year” at the European Business Awards 2013/14 here.
A scientific paper entitled “Molecular Clustering via Knowledge Mining from Biomedical Scientific Corpora” has been accepted for oral presentation at the 13th IEEE International Conference on BioInformatics and BioEngineering (BIBE 2013), which is held in Chania, Greece, at November 10-13, 2013. Panagiotis Hasapis, Dimitrios Ntalaperas, Dimitrios Alexandrou, Thanassis Bouras and their co-authors argue for a novel architecture that allows the extraction of argumentation clauses that might exist in publications, in order to perform molecular clustering on referenced molecules. Grammar rules are defined and used to identify sentences corresponding to argumentation being present in publications. The references of those molecules are then compiled as lists that include their structure definition in SMILES format. These lists are given as input to virtual screening tools and then to a molecular clustering tool, with the ultimate goal to classify molecules that are known to be prone to specific diseases, thus leading to the discovery of new drugs.
The ongoing EC co-funded LinkedDesign FP7 IP project presents its scope, objectives and intermediate results at the ICT 2013 event in Vilnius. Addressing the need for collaborative ICT in manufacturing design and product lifecycle management, the Linked Engineering and mAnufacturing Platform (LEAP) of LinkedDesign federates all product lifecycle information relevant to drive engineering and manufacturing processes, independent of its format, location, originator, and time of creation. Apart from the unified access to the integrated information, LEAP will provide specific knowledge exploitation solutions like sentiment analysis and design decision support systems to analyse the integrated information. Find us at the advanced research stand of LinkedDesign during 6th-8th November, 2013, at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO, located in Zone R3 industry and business for tomorrow, Stand 4E5.
The successfully completed EC co-funded GRANATUM FP7 project demonstrates the final integrated platform produced, at the ICT 2013 event in Vilnius. The GRANATUM platform constitutes a social collaborative working environment for semantically interlinking biomedical researchers, knowledge and data, and targets at the joint, cooperative design and execution of in-silico models and experiments in the cancer chemoprevention biology domain. The demonstration booth of GRANATUM will be active during 6th-8th November, 2013, and can be found at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO, located in Zone R3 industry and business for tomorrow, Stand 4C4.
UBITECH attends the “ICT 2013 – Create, Connect, Grow” event, in Vilnius, Lithuania on 6-8 November 2013. The event, which is organised by the European Commission in partnership with the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the official sponsors of the Presidency, focuses on Horizon 2020 – the EU’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation for 2014-2020 and gathers more than 5,000 registered participants and delegates from the academia, the research community and the industry.
In accordance with the TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS procedures, UBITECH has been certified for applying a Quality Management System in line with the EN ISO 9001:2008 standard for the “design, development, management, integration, production, delivery, installation, deployment, hosting and technical support of custom software applications and integrated solutions, information systems and information technology projects”. The certified quality system of UBITECH reinforces the company capabilities and operations, improves the quality and maturity of the services provided, and fortifies our corporate responsibility against our partners and clients. The EN ISO 9001:2008 certification of UBITECH (with registration number 010131055) in Greek, English and Spanish can be found here.
Being part of the EU Business Delegation to Israel (October 21-23, 2013) in the framework of a Mission for Growth to Israel, led by Vice-President of the European Commission Antonio Tajani, UBITECH participates at the B2B Networking Event “Promoting Partnership with Israel” organizing several bilateral face-to-face meetings with Israeli companies, associations and universities in order to reach the Israel market and key-players as well as examine the potentials of new R&D, technological and commercial opportunities.
