UBITECH presents the Mission, the Technical Challenges and Real-world Testbeds of the FutureTPM H2020 Research and Innovation action at the DeSECSys workshop

The 1st workshop on Dependability and Safety Emerging Cloud and Fog Systems (DeSECSys), in the context of the 25th European Symposium on Research in Computer Security (ESORICS ’20), took place virtually on September 17, 2020, and its focal point was the emergence of technologies that support the safety and dependability of the ever-increasing sensitive data handled by digital applications. In addition, besides these technologies which target security by their design, DeSECSys focused also on other technologies, such as machine learning, which could potentially be applied to secure innovative schemes. The aim of the workshop was to foster collaboration and discussion among cyber-security researchers and practitioners to discuss the various applications, opportunities and possible shortcomings of these technologies and their integration. The goal was to produce a collection of state-of-the-art research about emerging security technologies, their applications, their shortcomings and their verification with a focus on their uncompromised, in terms of security, safety and dependability, integration.

UBITECH participates in the virtual kick-off meeting, hosted by the DBC EUROPE (September 16-17, 2020), of the PALANTIR Innovation Action, officially started on September 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 883335) and spans on the period September 2020 – August 2023. PALANTIR aims at bridging the gap between large enterprises and SMEs/MEs, by providing multi-layered, infrastructure-wide threat monitoring, cyber-resiliency and knowledge sharing in a heterogeneous ecosystem, while at the same time being able to market these services to third parties in the form of Security-as-a-service (SECaaS). PALANTIR will implement a coherent privacy assurance, data protection, incident detection and recovery framework, focusing on the case of highly dynamic service-oriented systems and networks, taking advantage of their inherent programmability features and abstractions. PALANTIR will also focus on cyber-resiliency leveraging the features of service-oriented systems key building features by a) applying and exploiting Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies; b) considering emerging paradigms such as the application of scalable artificial Intelligence, standardization and threat-sharing techniques to risk analysis, network operation, monitoring and management and c) ensuring the SME’s compliance with the relevant data privacy and protection regulations in the data breach age, implementing the «Privacy by Default» and the «Privacy by Design» principles on how personal data is collected, used, transferred and stored between 3rd party businesses and entities.

UBITECH talks about the orchestration of cloud-native application in the programmable 5G at the MATILDA 5G and Beyond Workshop

The MATILDA 5G & Beyond Workshop was originally proposed and accepted to be held in conjunction with the 6G Wireless Summit, and was planned to be held in Levi, Finland, on March 20, 2020. Owing to the Covid-19 outbreak, all Tutorials and Workshops scheduled on March 19 and 20 were cancelled, and eventually the 6G Wireless Summit itself was transformed into a virtual event. Thus, MATILDA has decided to follow a similar path, organizing the workshop as a webinar on June 30, 2020. The goal of this workshop is to present the main assets and business models for the whole MATILDA solution and its vertical demonstrators and the potential of their evolution toward 6G, where, by mapping application requirements to network slice configuration and allowing fast dynamic adaptation of resources, it may contribute to empower European SMEs and other stakeholders in the development of more efficient 5/6G-aware applications and foster innovative vertical industries. The workshop will include presentations on the MATILDA assets from Consortium partners and will also welcome invited speakers from academia and the industrial sector, from application developers to Telco Service Providers, possibly followed by a panel discussion. Presentations will be upon invitation only.
